Industry events create value only when tied to a capability gap

Observed signal. Autodesk University 2026 programming spans preconstruction, estimating, risk, data and emerging technology, creating breadth but also a high risk of unfocused attendance.

Delivery consequence. Treat an event as a learning intervention: name the project problem, select sessions against it and require a short transfer plan for the wider team.

AI is moving closer to governed project context

Observed signal. Autodesk’s agentic-AI and MCP direction, alongside the Revit 2027 Assistant preview, points toward assistants that can operate on permissioned design and construction context.

Delivery consequence. The useful question is no longer whether a chatbot can discuss BIM. It is which approved data it may reach, what action it may take, and how a human verifies the result.

  • Map tool access to project roles and data boundaries
  • Separate preview capability from production commitment
  • Retain human approval for model or document changes

Platform naming is changing faster than project governance

Observed signal. Autodesk Construction Cloud is now positioned within Autodesk Forma, while Autodesk says existing customer data, workflows, licensing and integrations continue without a migration caused by the name change.

Delivery consequence. Teams should update language in training and guidance without inventing a technical migration or changing an approved project process prematurely.

  • Update terminology where it reduces confusion
  • Verify entitlements and integrations at the current source
  • Keep contractual and CDE language aligned with the appointment

OpenBIM is expanding from exchange toward computable requirements

Observed signal. IFC 4.4 integration, IDS-related prototypes and openBIM hackathon work indicate continued movement toward machine-testable requirements and connected model services.

Delivery consequence. Production teams need stable identifiers, explicit requirements and repeatable validation—not only an IFC export button.

  • Trial validation on a bounded package
  • Record schema, mapping and tool versions

AI transparency has become a project-governance question

Observed signal. The EU AI Act transparency milestone increases the need for AEC organizations to identify actual tools, users, outputs and affected audiences before deciding which duties apply.

Delivery consequence. A generic AI policy is too weak. Governance needs a use-case register, accountable owner, data controls and an escalation route for uncertain or consequential output.

Checks for teams

  • Inventory AI use by project task and audience
  • Record whether output influences a formal decision
  • Seek qualified legal review where the applicable duty is uncertain

Visualization access is widening, but production readiness remains specific

Observed signal. Twinmotion entitlement guidance and NVIDIA’s Omniverse licensing change can reduce entry barriers, while compatibility, compute, integration and support remain separate delivery questions.

Delivery consequence. Select visualization, VR, AR or digital-twin technology from the decision and device—not from the apparent price of entry.

  • Confirm version and entitlement for the actual project team
  • Pilot performance on the target hardware and delivery device
  • Price implementation, compute and support separately

Upgrade planning remains an information-delivery control

Observed signal. Current Revit support and hardware guidance affects model compatibility, connected workflows, team access and exchange risk.

Delivery consequence. Software upgrades should be treated as project change: bounded, tested and agreed—not as an individual preference.

  • Record project software versions and supported connectors
  • Test representative models and exports before migration
  • Keep a rollback and archive position for live work
